ABOUT THE COLLECTIVE

I’m often asked, “What exactly is a creative collective?” Despite there being quite a few art collectives all over the world, the concept still eludes understanding for many. While art collectives can vary in their goals, what Primitive provides at its core is a way to get projects made by offering ownership of these project directly to the creative team who makes them. The collective is a loose network of projects led by artists who support and collaborate in ways that push ideas in bold and ambitious directions.

Primitive is NOT a production company or agency but rather acts as an umbrella for a number of different artistic disciplines and utilizes synergies and economies of scale to create and maintain creative momentum across projects. These projects are specifically selected as projects that push boundaries of artistic expression and which are at stages that can benefit from the resources of the other projects within the collective. This allows for more freedom for artists to pursue opportunities outside of the collective and allows the collective to be more adaptable to changing circumstances and opportunities. The projects come from a range of fields including film, documentary, visual art, poetry, illustration, animation, architecture, performance art, and music. Primitive is constantly expanding and evolving with new projects and artists and working to grow as a creative community.
